What I find weird about all of these photographs, being a photographer myself and knowing the history of cameras, is that the time period in which these photos were taken suggest that the people in the photographs had to hold the pose that they were in for very long periods of time just to get and exposure. The cameras back then were no where nearly as fast as the cameras today, meaning that it wasnt that you just brought out the camera, looked through the view finder and then pressed a button and you had a picture. People had to sit in one spot anywhere from one to two to three or more minutes without moving at all just to get a clear image or to not be erased from the image entirely. In the examples of pictures of people swinging shovels and hoes in the field and walking around, this is a very unplausable thing to take a picture of unless the photographer actually told the people to hold an action pose for an extended period of time. Like the sailor cutting the shackle off the guys foot, he had to actually hold the saw in one place to get that picture because if it was taken as he was sawing then his hands, arms and the saw would either be blurred or not properly captured by the camera in the picture. So just think about these things when you look at stuff like this, dont assume that because something is black and white and grainy that it was an organic photograph taken in a moment in history by a casual photographer. Also dont forget the enormous part to play that the germans, russians and german or russian jews had to play in the creation and use of cameras and then think about that when youre looking at the event that is being described to have happened in the picture.
