Rhode Island is the only state where incest is not a crime. They don't permit mother and son to marry but as long as both are over 18 they can do anything they consent to do with each other of a sexual nature. Some other states are more permissible than others but only in Rhode Island is it completely legal. In my town in Rhode Island about a decade ago a father started to have a romantic relationship with his 19 year old daughter whom he hadn't met until she was 18 as he had a messy divorce with the mother. A couple years in the daughter gave birth to her Dad's daughter/granddaughter. That is when it became a public scandal. The cops were called but there was no law to charge them with. The baby didn't seem to have any hereditary illnesses or medical conditions. There was a push for the law to change but they didn't get enough interest. Last I heard they had a second child and now the girl is around 12 and the boy is around 8. The father and daughter are still in a romantic relationship and are trying to convince the Rhode Island legislature to change the law to let them get married but as I understand it none of the legislators want to sponsor such a bill. No shock there.
