Kinda reminds me of this scifi short story. Don't remember what it was called unfortunately. But basically there is an alien race that reproduces by having their own species or others become host to their eggs. If the young is left in the host for too long, they'll begin to kill the host by eating the host. So once the young are nutured to a certain point, the young are removed and transfered. In this universe, there was a group of humans that had fled earth for some reason. This alien race found that humans made exceptional hosts that produced strong offspring. In sort of an exchange the aliens would protect the humans in a preserve from the rest of the aliens that sought to just use then discard them, but some of the humans would have to become hosts in sort of political favors in order to preserve their own existence. The humans are treated very well, and not many have to do this. Both female and male humans can become hosts. The aliens do their best to keep the humans alive after extracting their young.
