The debate in the aesthetic reminded me a bit of Dear white people, in the sense that in that show you see a variety of black characters dealing with racism in different ways (eg. direct confrontation versus fit in and try to change the culture from within) and often getting really mad at each other because of those differences, asserting that the other approach is damaging the cause. But as the show goes on, you learn more about the different characters and gain empathy for them, and they often end up learning from each other. I suspect that this type of dynamic is common in many movements. You certainly see similar disagreements among feminists, environmentalists, socialists, etc. When you are trying to change something, it raises a lot of questions about what exactly the end goal is, what are the best methods for reaching that goal, and how fast you try to reach it...and that makes for a lot of potential for conflict, and the fear that those conflicts will provide fuel to your opponents who want to say: See, this is why we shouldn't change anything. It just leads to chaos.
