It is absolutely true that Nordic countries are not friendly towards private sex work, not even Denmark. I believe it should be heavily taxed and controlled, and there should be zoning for sex work establishments. I have to be honest, I'd rather not live around sex workers. I did when I was younger, and it felt terrible and super awkward. Fuck that. I will vote against it unless it comes with a lot of control, because I hate living around sex work. If it's out of sight and out of mind, I'm frankly all for it. But we all believe it's going to become like the Netherlands, where it's not easy to avoid encountering - and at that point I don't think I'd like to keep living in the city.

As a former 'escort', one of the things that she says touched me deeply and I think she understands these woman more than she knows. Trafficked or not, the majority(I would assume %95) of prostitutes DO NOT WANT to prostitute and do not want to sleep with these men. NO woman grows up aspiring to sell her body to men. It's scary, it's depressing, and it makes you see the world and men in a bitter and sad way. Prostitution is often resorted to as survival sex, borne out of poverty, sexual and emotional abuse, a lack of positive male role models, low self-worth, and a lack of opportunity. It shocked me how many of these men were normal, everyday men. Men of all ages, from all walks of life. A lot of them were not mean- neutral, some were even kind, some were cruel. I think a lot of the time these men do not realize how deeply it affects and hurts these women, how they are supporting trafficking and mistreatment of women(in some cases), but in a lot of cases they may not realize it but they are contributing to severe psychological damage of an already vulnerable woman.. often putting money into the pockets of the men/women who exploit and take advantage of these young girls(I worked with women as young as 18) putting them at risk of suicide, depression, and overwhelmingly of drug addiction. I saw it happen again and again. Young women would start working as an escort and after 6-8 months they would get burned out and depressed(or more depressed) and often end up with a severe drug addiction, they would be changed forever, and jaded. Then they would bring the new girls in and those girls would end up on the streets, or with abusive men, or feeding their addiction etc. It's not always an unhappy ending for these girls but overwhelmingly, prostitution does NOT have a happy ending, and all the big money made during the beginning ends up squandered. Unfortunately, as I know well, there are few to no programs to help prostitutes to get out of the business or to prevent them from going in by helping them seek out different options and worst of all there is no support for prostitutes coming out of the industry. When you get out of escorting, you are alone and there is no one to help you find your way back to normalcy because society does not care about these women. We are considered dirty and a waste of resources. I hope one day that I can create a safe place for these women, a place where they can come no matter where they are in their experience with the sex industry. A place where we can heal together.
