In the manga shinji was actually not into kaworu at all, in fact he tried all his might to stay away from him. This was mainly because shinji hadn't lost so many people as he did in the anime and rebuild movies, he had rei to hold hands with instead. even when kaworu made advances on shinji, he just ignored him and got himself out of his sight as much as possible. this isn't a smoking gun though as the manga at this point in the story was published in 2006, but more so an alternate plausible look into what made shinji become close to kaworu. im not one to dwell on the sexualities of literal teenagers, but with everything in comparison to the manga it just seems as though shinji and kaworu's relationship had formed because of either loss and desperation, or from life shifting itself into place. i don't trully think shinji really is bisexual, but just a tattered soul admist the rubble of the lust for affection in a world of little to none, and when we think about the duo's impact on the youth of the 90s it doesn't seem to be that grand when there had been a dozen other anime with gay characters spanning seasons rather than a few episodes like in NGE. further more i feel as though kaworu is just more so a plot device rather than an actual love interest, seeing as how he has the same angelic grace as rei but in a boyish form which in the manga is a massive turn off for shinji. That and the fact that kaworu is the true last straw for shinji's final breakdown, with him letting kaworu in- to watching himself kill him -yet another point in which shinji's hedgehogs dilemma takes full affect. i think a true eva fan wouldn't let something like this bother them, bc besides prolly already having the anime on dvd with the adv dub, they would know that that scene is more homosexual than chris crocker (and chris crocker is an icon). I think there are better points to be made about the new netflix version than bitching about one line which, in your own words, you wouldn't even hear seeing as how you only watch sub. funny how someone who doesn't watch dub is bitching about dub. it also seems to me you aren't in the lgbt community as you so do defend, very white knight behavior and its very insufferable. maybe educate yourself a little more about topics that you obviously have no honest clue about rather than defend them on the behalf of others. also netflix is trash it trully is, and trust me they really could care less about you whatching thier stuff; they still get the coin no matter what you do. so have fun watching it on kissanime bc im guessing you dont have it on anything else since your willing to bitch about a platform made from a capitalist country, which soul desire is to make money... obv not everything is going to be perfect, i mean its netflix. they gave more of a shit about super natural and vampire diaries bc they knew it would make a lot of money, and using that cliché friends remark is so edgelord behavior its not even worth my time to deliberate it. netflix knew NGE wasn't as mainstream yet they took a chance and thats what we got, its not good but its eh and whatever thats how the cookie crumbles. your not a real fan if you bitch about something so ambiguous to the og translation, very very ignorant i must say.
