I have lived in eight states, including most of Calif., NYC, New Jersey, Delaware, Iowa and South Carolina. I have now lived in Wichita area for most the past 18 years. Yes the winters can be cold, but not as bad as the east coast. The summers are hot, but not as bad as most southern states. The cost of living is relatively low, especially housing and property taxes are lower than many other places I have lived. As for lifestyle, Wichita has a bit of everything. College sports, the arts, a great music scene, nice zoos and museums and access to lots of outdoor activities. Yes you drive several hours across rather boring flat land to get to other places, or you fly to Dallas, Denver, Phoenix, Chicago or the Twin Cities to connect to the rest of the world. But there are direct flights to Seattle, where some of my kids live, so all in all it’s a decent place to live, except San Diego has better beaches (and housing that is 5 to 10 times more expensive.
