I came across a musician reactor that was recommended to me by youtube. He was just discovering morissette and in one of his videos what he remarked upon baffled me for days, he said that he was thankful that morissette was not sexualized by whoever is managing her and for me I was just what?!?. What does he means by sexualized? What's the connection of being sexy to her being one of our greatest singers?to her talent?her songs? I was so confused for days until I come across a YouTube short clips about Taylor Swift's speech about the western demand on female artists and her struggle to fit her image on those demands. On her always reinventing herself and every album she released to be considered still relevant. And that's when it clicked to me what he means. That this was so normalized to them, that it always left me having whiplash why some female western artists that I tend to listen to always evolved and tends to wear riskier clothes as time goes by that sometimes those clothes have no connection to what the message of their songs are. And then I realized that this is one of the reasons I tend to lose interest in some western musicians, as time goes by they lose what made them why I listened to them in the first place.
