I can tell you from my own experience in Missouri. There are a lot of stuff we don't know about. During a walk at night on the dirt road near my house with my cousins and some friends, heard a strange sound that started as a low growl that then went in to a bird like tone down back in to the low growl. After hearing it, I trying to make us seem like bigger threats, roared at the creature. It stopped growling and moved off, but we never saw it because of how dark it was and the creature was in the woods. We walked further before smelling the most awful smell, and the dogs with us, that hadn't made a peep at the sound before. Almost like they didn't even hear it, started growling and getting between us and part of the forest. We heard sound in the forest that sounded like movement but it was too dark to see. We decided to head back home, a bit further from the previous location where we heard the strange growling. We heard the sound offighting back where the dogs got upset. At that point we started booking it towards home. Half way home we suddenly heard what I can only describe as a reptilian victory roar. Sounding similar to the T-rex victory roar but not as deep, but just as loud.
