Interesting. I hear lots of criticism, judgmental comments, etc but very little by way of what should be done differently, by whom, and to be paid for by whom? In this particular case, what could ANY authority, leader, Police Officer or responsible adult have done to prevent this tragedy from happening, at the time it took place. This is the problem. This kind of breakdown in societal, family and cultural norms is the basic underlying cause. Changing it to the extent where EVERY such case is eliminated is a task that I shudder to even contemplate, and which I suggest is unattainable. Statistically, 14 such deaths (as mentioned) in a year, in a country of over 60 million people is infinitesimal! It's still, however 14 tragedies, with huge impacts on many people associated with it. The world's ability to produce (and pay for) sufficient resources and services (not ONLY food, water and healthcare), has reached the point that it can not be achieved for everyone. With the very many freedoms modern society demands and sometimes gets, comes a corresponding level of responsibility attached to each one, and these are often very burdensome, difficult, and time-consuming, and often beyond the ability of many to even comprehend, let alone carry! People glibly say with much confidence that it's up to Educators to educate our young people better! This is all very well, but the bottom line is that adults even, and often even those very educators, struggle with the demands of carrying their own responsibilities, let alone be sufficiently knowledgeable, skilled and experienced enough to do so for others, in the VERY limited time they have.
