These ARE NOT the worst prisons in the USA. As rayr4320 mentioned on this thread, it was mostly jails being profiled with a couple max prisons that looked okay to me. They showed one inmate with a key to his cell/room that had color TV, a boombox, a typewriter and other miscellaneous creature comforts. Back in the 80's, I got caught in the mix and was in the actual biggest jail (in the US), here in New York City...Rikers Island, which at the time had over Thirty Thousand inmates. Now, that's a jail! Most inmates were being detained until they had room for them upstate, i.e. Sing Sing, Attica, Comstock, Clinton and about 80 other prisons peppered throughout NY state (medium, maximum and camps)...not to mention the various work release facilities...Edgecombe, Lincoln, Fulton, Queens borough, etc.;. Now, if they profiled that Maricopa jail...I'd say that's one of the worst jails. But, back in the days... Rikers Island was just too big and had too many inmates, that controlling a jail that big was next to impossible. Nowadays, they can hardly justify keeping Rikers Island open, due to the shortage of inmates. They only have a few buildings open, the rest are vacant. Only a few thousand inmates and they've shut down more than a dozen state prisons in NY. Due to the huge drop in the crime rate. The bottom line is, this documentary should be renamed, as I didn't see anything too bad at all. I guess by calling it US Worst Prisons, more people would view it. The title tricked me. I'm sure most would agree that most of the facilities profiled didn't seem all that bad.

In the early 90’s, my beautiful daughter was “discovered”. Her voice, even as a child, was extremely powerful, but also angelic. She LOVED singing and was in a local theater company. I also had a cousin who was an attorney for Disney, she invited us down, they’d heard about my daughter, seen her on some of our local TV programs; but wanted to hear her for themselves. One of her local mentors, an incredible Jazz singer, had had my daughter sing for some producers at an off-Broadway production of Annie.
