Now that I’ve finally watched through AOT, I have a weird feeling about the “He had no choice” rhetoric… Like, I watched the last episodes first (the ACTUAL last episodes), and then watched the show from the beginning just to fully grasp it, and… I just can’t bring myself to understand it after watching all the way through lmao. Like, the last episodes kind of give this story of “It was planned out and happening from the beginning, so Eren and Zeke were essentially just possessed”, but the earlier parts of Season 4 just serve to show exactly how many options Eren DID have. He actively sought out the power that would allow him to lay waste to the world, and then was surprised when he “snapped out of it” and saw that he had turned into the “filthy bad-person” that he had spent the entire span of the show judging and/or killing. He had ample opportunity to realize that he was just on the other side of the same coin, but he ALWAYS felt superior to everyone else. That isn’t more clear than when he confronts Armin and Mikasa after he attacks Marley, WHICH HE DID ON HIS OWN MIND YOU.
