So this really hits close to home. About 10 years ago, my wife and her two sisters went shopping for an artist who could paint a portrait of the three of them from a group photo that was taken a few years back. So of course they went least-cost.....so you know where this is going, right? So the artist was this Jamaican guy and Jamaican art, from what little I know, seems heavily influenced by water colors and impressionism. Now, I will tell you, I liked the final product. He caught the spirit of all three sisters, but it was this weird kind of portrait that, well, I can't explain it. My wife and sisters were PISSED. They demanded their money back. They got half. My wife was SO pissed with the portrait that it was consigned to I think a closet or bathroom in the house. I occasionally catch a glimpse of it, but can never remember where she has it hidden away. Like I said, I liked it...I guess they were expecting an oil portrait on par with something from one of the European greats. I was like Didn't you take a look at some of his work around the studio? That would give you a pretty good idea of his medium and milieu. Oh well, guess they learned a lesson on that one.
