The age of consent is fine, it could be lowered and it'd still be fine. These arbitrary ages mean nothing in the real world. It seems that if a 18+ year old gets raped that's fine, but when someone even a day below the age of consent has consensual sex suddenly it's a national crisis... I don't think there's a whole lot of justice in the judicial system these days. It's so fucked up how her mother was raped and the DAUGHTER felt guilty for it instead of the rapist! I don't think long years in jail would rehabilitate anyone in the US, rather to the contrary. Educating people like him to stand against rape in the future would serve society far better than sticking him in a cell to become an outcast or career criminal. After all, he's no mass murdering psycho rapist, likely just a teenager who either couldn't control his urges or didn't know just how bad what he was doing was. In conclusion, laws are bullshit, but so are the punishments for breaking them, and society seems to be okay with that.
