This has happened to video games, comics, etc. The idea is, What you like is bad because x, y, and z. This needs to change to be more inclusive, but people forget that by changing x, y, and z you have excluded your original target audience that liked the product to begin with. Most of the anger around these things stems from liking something, and not wanting it to change because it's fine as is. This also includes the whole girls in bikinis commercial.
