Trauma is an incredibly broad range of things to really narrow down and is very different for each person individually, it's so complicated to understand sometimes from an outside perspective, as trauma by the person who experienced it may not be felt as trauma by another because everyone is just so different, we all experiences things in different ways so trying to get others to understand what you've gone through is often times, ignored or completely belittled as though it was nothing. Their trauma often ford's overlooked even though it's likely the main reason where the addiction had been initially formed, often years and even decades before the person ever starts using drugs, or alcohol which is absolutely a drug, and responsible for more deaths each year on average then all other drugs combined, so don't ever be fooled by the reality alcohol abuse just because alcohol is legal. It's always so easy for others to judge someone who's life that they know nothing about and lable them as being someone is weak and pathetic, often they even claim that addicts really just enjoy living this way, when in reality it's horrific nightmare that just won't end that I promise no addict is happy living. I often have heard people say that they believe an addict is simply just unwilling of change and this assumption is so infuriating to me to hear coming from non-addicts who are completely naive and can't even comprehend what the addict is going through and already been through, because if they did they'd know that's complete nonsense. It's true the very, very beginning of addiction its not uncommon for new addicts to enjoy aspects of their addiction, but that's is very short lived by all addicts as they'll soon lose everything and they'll be praying for the strength to change and soon realize how unlikely that is. Absolutely no one wants to be this way, have their entire lives ripped apart, continously suffer day to day, experiencing horrific traumas, emotionally and spirituality broken, their addiction relentless in its pursuit to destroy them until the very end, whether that's sobriety or death, and more often than not, it's death. No matter the person or circumstances, no one is immune to this disease, and yes it is absolutely a disease. Drug addiction is a pain that you could never even imagine how powerful until you've walked a mile in their shoes, so unless you have, keep your BS judgements to yourself, because you have absolutely no idea what it is your talking about.
